Educated at The Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst and London University (School of Slavonic & East European Studies)
Peter Reed has 12 years’ experience as a professional British Army officer in Signals Intelligence and UK Special Forces culminating with the provision of Psyops capability for the SAS Regiment.
He subsequently worked in management and leadership development in the private sector, followed by 26 years’ experience as an international institutional and organizational development consultant, working at the most senior level for most Donor Agencies and multiple Governments worldwide.
He is also a published author and trainer on leadership, governance and complex change management for risk assessment, critical decision making and strategy mapping in Volatile, Uncertain, Complex & Ambiguous (VUCA) operating environments.
Peter is the author of Extraordinary Leadership – Creating Strategies for Change’ published 2001and 2003 in the UK and USA by Kogan Page and translated into Chinese and Arabic.
He also revised and co-authored John Adair’s classic ‘Not Bosses but Leaders’ released by Kogan Page in January 2003.. He is a contributor to the US Encyclopedia of Public Administration and Policy (USA).
He has also spoken at international fora and published on comprehensive approaches to violent extremism & radicalization in the HoA. Currently working on Risk Assessment & Critical Decision Making tools for complex environments.
Peter has an in-depth knowledge of stabilization operations worldwide gained from assignments in 45 countries with increasing focus on governance, administrative reform and civil society strengthening for oversight of military & security forces and the coordination of security, diplomacy and development in fragile and conflict-affected states (FCAS).
He has field experience in Somalia, Libya, DRC, Kenya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sudan, North & South Caucasus, the Balkans, Timor, Congo, Syria, Lebanon, Myanmar, Ukraine, West Bank, Gaza, Ukraine, Yemen etc. He facilitated the writing of the National Security Stabilization Plan for the transition to self-government in Somalia as an Advisor to the President; and subsequently as Security Sector Advisor in the Strategic Advisory Team of the EU Military Training Mission in Mogadishu, he supported the Minister of Defense and the Army Chief of Staff to develop this into the Defense Strategic Plan.
Peter was Team Leader for the UK Government’s Iraq Reconstruction & Development Programme based in Basra, and for the UK-Libya Security, Justice &Defence Programme based in Tripoli.
More recently he led a UK-Danish team to design a series of projects for countering violent extremism (CVE) in East Africa, and evaluated the UK Government’s Conflict, Security & Stabilization Fund programming for strengthening resilience in Eastern Europe (including Ukraine) to counter Russian aggression.
